This year, not nearly as much rain as 2020.  Also, I thinned them (2 weeks ago?)  The last couple years they have been so dense the hens really couldn't work their way in in order to hide and cool off.  I opened the 'gate' about a week ago--undoing the fencing at both ends much earlier than I have in the past.  I am keeping an eye to see that the hens and chicksters do not gnaw them down faster than they can shoot up and out.

Bizarre extra twist--Memorial Day (Monday 31 May) we had massive hail!  Their leaves really took a beating.  Between the chickens and the weather, they probably feel cursed about now?  :)
