Phryne (19 Feb 2015 - 29 October 2024)

Tuesday morning, 9ish, trying to get up from her bed in the living room, our lovely, goofy big Doberman mix, Phryne, crumpled and fell flat over.  Dr. Flower thinks it was a stroke.  After awhile, she rallied.  Eventually she hobbled into the bedroom and laid down.  About 10:30 had another episode, a massive one this time.  And off she went.  She was dead by 11am.

If she had to go, it was the most merciful way anyone could imagine. It came on suddenly, and was over quickly.  She was in her house, in her bed, with us nearby.

We got her from Animal Humane.  Her mother was a blue Doberman, don't know about dad. She was probably 8-10 weeks old, which puts her birthday around the last week of December, first week of January 2015.  Maria and Gloria brought her home 19 February 2015.  She was roughly the same size as Pancho and Chico. :)

"Talked" a LOT, especially when she thought she had earned a cookie.  Cookie MONSTER! Dug massive holes, killed a LOT of ground squirrels, hated hawks.  Skunks -- oh dear.  She got skunked four times? Maybe five.  (NO learning curve). She did actually kill one at some point.  Loved jumping into the ditch to cool off on long summer walks. Winters, she was often cold, but utterly refused to wear any of the stylish, toasty jackets we bought her.  Favorite toy - the Wubba.  She was very good at catching it in midair.

What was that anti-skunk recipe again?
