It’s Raining Leaves

We had a slight breeze, and that was enough to shower me like a well-wisher at a wedding. The first real autumn shower of yellow and orange—elmashredbud, and the lovely peach tree. The black locust was shedding like Pigpen!

Wandering around the yard, it suddenly occurred to me that the killing frost a week ago Tuesday (October 28th?) was not severe enough to make the Mulberry do its sudden, dramatic leaf drop.

It sounds like there is a huge mass of article air headed down into the Rocky Mountains this weekend. What a bittersweet feeling, knowing the end is coming on a much larger and more emphatic level in just a few more days. I took a moment to glory in my late season Nasturtiums, and admired the delicate shading on a begonia.
